Lexington man dies after car crash
A Lexington man died early Sunday morning after
being ejected from his car in a crash Saturday
night, authorities said.
Travis E. Watford, 27, was
pronounced dead at 1:46 a.m. after being
airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland, said
Lexington County Deputy Coroner Todd Caughman.
Watford was driving north on Founders Road when
he lost control and drove off the side of
the road, striking a utility pole, mailbox
and trees, said Highway Patrol spokesman Josef Robinson.
The car then overturned and came to
rest on its side, he said.
The passenger in the vehicle,
Natalie Quarles, 29, also was thrown
from the car, Robinson said. Quarles
was taken to Palmetto Health Richland
with non-life threatening injuries.
Neither Watford nor Quarles was wearing
a seat belt, he said.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor
in the crash, he said,
which remains under investigation
